SHEILD is a Lebanese national nongovernmental organization committed to a path toward social justice. Working across Lebanon and neighbouring Syria, the organization focuses on advancing local development, gender equality, and humanitarian assistance for communities that are often overlooked by formal systems. Its guiding idea is simple and stubborn: dignified change begins close to home, in neighbourhoods, villages, and municipal areas where people live, work, raise families, and rebuild after crisis.

Founded by Lebanese members, SHEILD operates as an independent civil society actor with a distinctly local orientation. Rather than working from a distance, the organization builds relationships with community members, local authorities, and grassroots associations so that interventions respond to real needs as they are expressed on the ground. This proximity shapes how projects are designed, monitored, and adapted, and it keeps decision-making close to the people intended to benefit.

The organization acts during and after emergencies arising from armed conflict or natural disasters. Its emergency response work focuses on bringing relief to populations affected by displacement and crisis, while its longer-term programming addresses the underlying vulnerabilities that make repeated shocks so damaging.
